Melanie Deroon resides in Melbourne, Australia. She is currently studying the Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Radiations) Medical Imaging, Radiography and works at Royal Melbourne Hospital. She has always loved doing art in a variety of mediums, particularly with animals as the main subject. She began doing Pet Portraits in 2008 and doesn't plan to stop any time soon!

In 2008 Melanie won the top art prize in the Wyndham Cultural Art Awards for Wedge-tailed Eagle and Tulips.

Melanie also won the People's Choice award at the Anglican Epiphany Art Exhibition 2010 for her pastel drawing of a giraffe titled Extension.
